What is a Grand Prix Event?
Grand Prix is a casual performance test regularly offered by the Club to showcase the progress of our gymnasts. It also serves as a preparation for competitions and is therefore of great importance.
Grand Prix is offered to all beginner and intermediate gymnasts of ALL disciplines. It is essential for gymnasts who will not participate in any competitions to attend at least four of these tests during the year (one per term). If the gymnast participates in competitions, he/she only needs to attend three Grand Prix’s. There is ample opportunity for gymnasts to do the required amount of Grand Prix’s, as the Club offers 5-6 such events during the year.

Apart from the buttons that are given to the gymnasts on each test, a medal is also given at the end of the year, to those who attended their required number of Grand Prix events as stipulated in the previous paragraph. If an event cannot be attended, special arrangements can be made to test the gymnast at another time, close to the Grand Prix date.
Pre-School and Pre-Level Badge System
New gymnasts would usually start with the GREEN Badge (ages 2-5yrs).
Gymnasts may be tested on a specific badge for 2 or 3 consecutive Grand Prix Events until they have mastered all the exercises properly.
The next Badge to master is BLUE.
Lastly, before moving to Level 1 in a Gymnastics discipline of your choice, the gymnast must complete the RED Badge.
Competitive Program for Grand Prix
Level 1-3 gymnasts will be tested 1stly on the skills set out by Gymnastics SA, in the level they are training for. Once the competition season nears, we may use these skill results to determine whether the gymnast will be ready to compete in that spesific level, usually needing to achieve 90-100% on all events/apparatuses. If they are not entirely ready yet for the new level, then they may repeat the previous level, which is not considered as failure, but rather building confidence and excellence! During the Competition season gymnasts are already partaking in regular competitions and may therefore skip that term's Grand Prix event, however, if they do decide to still do a Grand Prix, then they will be tested on their Competition routines.
Level 4 and higher gymnasts are also welcome to partake in Grand Prix, however their coach will use his or her own discretion to decide on which aspect to test the gymnasts, whether it is strength, flexibility, skills, or routines.
We hope to see you all at the next Grand Prix Testing!
Make sure to send us a photo of your gymnast after he/she received their GP rewards.
