The following guidelines and rules are of much importance regarding Gymnastics Competitions:
Enter the gymnast on time!
Enter a gymnast by liking the Competition invitation that will be sent on the WhatsApp group! We do not enter gymnasts automatically for any competitions - it is the parent/guardian's responsibility to confirm entry as requested. Competitions do not allow for late entries. Once the invite is liked and gymnasts have been entered, the competition fee will be charged to your Club account.
There will be a closing date on the invitations that are sent out per our WhatsApp groups. It is important to enter in advance. No refunds/withdrawals after the closing date. Competitions has to also be paid before the closing date and the proof of payment can be sent via WhatsApp or email to the Club.
Entry Fee
The entry fee will differ from one competition to the next. The invitation for each specific competition will indicate the entry fees. Should you compete in more than one discipline at the same competition, you will qualify for a 2nd&/3rd discipline discount.
All entry fees will always be payable into the Club's Account!
No refunds can/will be given from the club, or any association, should your gymnast not be able to compete after entries have been processed.
Each competition has a fee - This is charged to cover the following expenses:
• Venue Hire
• Apparatus Movement
• Apparatus Set-up
• Judges
• Security
• Music
• Scoring
• Medics
• Cleaning
• Refreshments for Judges
Be on time for the competition
A programme will be available AFTER the closing date. We will send the programme to the WhatsApp group, once we receive it. Please arrive at the competition at least 15 minutes in advance.
Physical Appearance
Gymnasts must have their hair tied neatly and gelled or sprayed. Hair hanging loose in the face won’t be allowed. If ribbons are worn, please ensure that they are the same colour as the leotard. A French Braid is most popular and comfortable for girls with long hair.
No jewellery may be worn. This includes earrings, bracelets, necklaces and watches.
Gymnasts will not be permitted to wear an excess of facial makeup, hair glitter, nail polish.
No undergarments protruding from under the leotards/vests.
Please mark the Gymnasts' clothes!
Club Competition Attire to be worn for any Local and Provincial Competitions, like friendly club competitions, South Free State, Free State and Zone Competitions.
Provincial Competition Attire to be worn for National Competitions, like SA Games and Nationals.
Meals before and during Competition
It is important that a gymnast must take a light meal before participating.
A sports bag is a necessity. You may wrap a sweet, water or cold drink and maybe a small blanket, in case it is cold and put it in the bag.
Parent Rules
After a gymnast has been called out to warm up, the coach takes over the supervision and no parent will be allowed to give instructions to the child or interfere by going to the competition area or talking to the judges.
No matter what the result of the competition might be, a child should always be praised for partaking.
No flash photography is allowed – should you take photos or video of your gymnast please ensure that the flash is off. The Club will appreciate it if any photos or videos can also be sent to us for marketing use.
Requirements for each Discipline
Trampoline and Tumbling: Gymnasts have to wear white socks or gymnastics shoes when competing.
Trampoline, Tumbling and Artistic Boys should wear short or long competition pants with their leovests.
Rhythmic: Leotards that have skirts attached. Girls may wear a little makeup and small face gems/bling on their faces.
Artistic Gymnasts: They wear the red and blue competition leotard or leovest.
Artistic Girls Level 4 and higher may wear customised leotards for all Competitions.
Parkour Gymnasts have to wear shoes during competitions and training. They may compete with Club T-shirts and black pants.
All gymnasts must wear tracksuits for the arrival of competitions, sometimes when presenting to the judges and for the prizegivings.
If there is any reason why your daughter cannot or does not want to participate in only a leotard at competitions (but would like to wear a long ski-pant as well), it must be arranged in advance with Management. Points can be deducted based on the wrong clothes worn in competitions.
Good luck to all our competitive gymnasts! Give it your best and enjoy every moment.

AWARDING OF COLOURS:
This applies to ALL sport codes including gymnastics.
Withdrawal due to illness or injury resulting in not competing – the rules below will apply.
Level 1-3: Competing at Zones
At the regional’s/district level, you qualify to represent Motheo (Free State South) District team. No colours are awarded at this level.
Until such time that you compete in the next competition (Zone), you have not represented Motheo and therefore do not get the clothing that goes hand in hand with such representation. You cannot advise your school that you represented as part of the Motheo team until you have competed at Zone. If you do not compete at Zone, you may only claim that you qualified to be part of the Motheo team and did not compete as part of the team.
Similarly:
Level 4+ : Competing at SA Games / Nationals
It is important to compete in at least one Friendly Competition before participating in a district or provincial competition. If you do not take part in the next competition – Free State, you have not represented the province and therefore are not awarded the colours or the clothing that goes hand in hand with such representation. You cannot advise your school that you qualified for Free State colours until you have competed at Free State Competition.
At Free State, you qualify for FS Honours/Colours. These are provincial colours.
If you do not take part in the next competition – Nationals (SA Gym Games), you have not represented FS and therefore are not awarded the colours that go hand in hand with such representation. You cannot advise your school that you received provincial colours until you have competed at Nationals. If you do not compete at Nationals, you may only claim that you qualified to get provincial colours, as you did not compete the awarding of colours falls away.
At Nationals – if you come first in your level and age group, you are the SA champion for that group for that year. You DO NOT receive SA colours and are not in the SA Gymnastics Team. This can only happen after you have completed the Olympic Level or chosen by GSA to represent South Africa internationally. There are 3 SA Teams you can be chosen for:
Protea Colours
Federation Colours
Region 5 Colours
